FHES

Math Manipulatives and Supplies - "Every Day Math," adopted a year ago is rich in hands-on learning of math concepts and computation. Additional manuipulatives and supplies purchased through the publisher will provide a wider range of learning opportunities for students at all levels.

Science Instructional Materials - Science is an intensive hands-on learning experience that requires lab equipment and supplies. Additional materials will keep science kits up-to-date and fully functional for classroom lab experiences.

Grades 4-5 Social Studies Text Book - It's been over 10 years since the intermediate grades at Friday Harbor Elementary School have had a new textbook in social studies. New texts will provide students up-to-date learning materials to meet new state learning standards in social studies.

FHMS

Math Program Software - "Accelerated Math" provides computer-based learning in mathematics designed to enrich and challenge individual students. The software provides increasingly difficult math practice and tracts individual student progress.

Math Program Instructional Materials - "Connected Math" is the adopted math curriculum for the middle school. Additional materials purchased from the publisher will provide broader learning experiences, and opportunities to individualize learning for struggling students as well as those exceeding standard.

Special Education Reading and Math Instructional Materials - Special education students have a special challenge to meet the state and federal learning standards. Additional materials in targeted reading and math instruction will support individual students to make greater progress toward standards.

FHHS

Biology/Marine Science Program Lab Equipment/Supplies - New lab equipment and supplies will replace outdated and "well used" supplies and equipment. Included in the purchase will be computer probeware and lab kits for DNA testing.

Foreign Language Texts - Funding will provide new textbooks for selected Spanish and French courses.

Special Education Reading and Math Instructional Materials - Special education students have a special challenge to meet the state and federal learning standards. Additional materials in targeted reading and math instruction will support individual students to make greater progress toward standards.

Experience the Connections (ETC) to Visual and Performing Arts - Funding provides scholarships for needy students participating in this community-based visual and performing arts program. Students travel to Seattle to visit museums and attend opera, theater, and music concerts.

Applied/Community-Based Learning Opportunities including Auto Mechanics and Woodworking - New this year are auto mechanics and wood working courses offered by community instructors. Funding provides start-up costs for tools, materials and equipment.

TI-83 Classroom Graphing Calculators - Graphing calculators are now essential tools to all mathematics students at the high school. The cost approximately $100 a piece. Funding will provide two classroom sets for student use, and particularly for those who cannot afford to purchase their own.

Griffin Bay School

English Instructional Materials - Griffin Bay High School provides individualized instruction for students in the alternative high school program. Funding enhances the library of basic English instructional materials used by students and teachers.

Math Instructional Materials - Griffin Bay High School provides individualized instruction for students in the alternative high school program. Funding enhances the library of basic Math instructional materials used by students and teachers.

Curriculum Library Materials - Griffin Bay High School, in its third year, continues to develop a broad-based high school curriculum to meet individual student needs. Additional materials will provide greater access to individualized learning experiences.

Study Skills and Vocational Training Materials - Additional materials will provide a more diverse set of occupational/vocational experiences for Griffin Bay students. Many students need additional support with study skills and organization - additional materials will support this instruction.

District-wide

English Language Learner Materials - Five years ago SJISD had no bilingual students qualifying for support services. Currently over 40 students qualify for such services. Additional learning materials will provide support in language acquisition, basic math, and language arts skills.

K-12 Reading/Literacy Adoption - This is a two year project to update the reading/language arts adoption in the District. The adoption includes K-5 developmental reading materials, 6-12 literature sets, and targeted curriculum adoptions for phonics, spelling, and grammar.

Curriculum and Assessments for Focused Instructional Math Interventions - Meeting the State's tough math standard is a challenge for all school districts in the state. Additional assessment and curriculum materials will provide opportunities to individually measure student progress toward standard, and to adjust the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
