The 24th annual Knowledge Bowl was a big success with Brent Snow emceeing the event and a packed audience of students, families, friends and teachers. The Friday Harbor High School Jazz Band opened the event as well as entertained the audience during intermission. And, the Friday Harbor Middle School PTA offered delicious baked goods throughout the evening. The LEO Club “roars” in support of literacy and art! The LEO Club, a youth service club affiliated with the San Juan Island Lions Club presented two donation checks to the San Juan Public Schools Foundation (SJPSF) in support of literacy at Friday Harbor Elementary School and art at Friday Harbor High School. It’s that time of year again! The 24th annual Knowledge Bowl will take place on Monday, February 5th at the San Juan Community Theatre. Sponsored by the San Juan Public Schools Foundation, this family fun event begins at 6:30 PM with the Friday Harbor High School Jazz Band. Teams made up of middle and high school students will go head to head with 4 local service organizations: Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary and Soroptimist, to answer tricky questions on a wide range of topics while dressed in fun costumes. Another great Knowledge Bowl!

The Annual Knowledge Bowl was awesome! The 23rd Annual Knowledge Bowl was well-attended and always entertains, featuring MC Brent Snow. The participants were members of San Juan Island’s service clubs as well as 8th grade to senior students, who are required to quickly respond to questions ranging from the arts to science and math. This year, we are  happy to announce the junior/senior team WON! with the Rotary Club coming in second. The eight graders were the clear winners for choice of best costume when they raised their arms and revealed their Monarch Butterfly wings.

From FHHS to the moon!

Looking at the eclipses of the moon at FHHS! I wanted to share these pictures with the School Foundation.  They bought this wonderful astronomy model for the eighth grade science curriculum at the end of last year, and this year we are using it!  It is really great!   These students are looking at why we get eclipses of the moon.  Thank you! Attention, Islanders! It’s time for the 23rd Annual Knowledge Bowl! Think island-style Jeopardy! Fun, laughs, root for your favorite team! Will it be the Lions, 8th and 9th graders, Kiwanis, 10th graders, Rotary, 12th graders, or the Soroptimists? Come enjoy the bake sale by the FHHS PTO while they battle it out!  Monday, March 6th – doors open at 6:30 ! San Juans STEM Center: an update

This update was prepared for SJPSF by Derek Smith The San Juan Island School District’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program is wrapping up its 2015-16 academic year. We’re already planning for the coming years after many successes from the K-12 students, including teams competing in the state-wide Orca Bowl at UW and others demonstrating their underwater vehicles at FHL’s annual Open House. Formal classes offered in the first year have included: Materials Engineering using 3D printers and industry-standard Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software; Robotics using Vex, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and quadcopters to cover land, air, and sea;

Here comes the Knowledge Bowl!

The 22nd annual Knowledge Bowl will be held on Monday, February 8, at the Community Theatre. Our fabulous Friday Harbor Jazz Band will begin performing at 6:30 and the FH Middle School PTA will be offering baked treats in the lobby before and during the event.
